Gaming has been a popular pastime for decades but something happened during the pandemic. Suddenly the stigma, no matter how small it might have been, was gone from gaming. It was no longer a guilty pleasure or something to hide from your serious friends and ‘adults’, it was a legitimate hobby and pastime.

More than that it became a way of reconnecting old friends, of maintaining social ties and of keeping your mind nimble. It also became very cool, mainly due to the number of celebrities that we saw taking to social media to share their gaming exploits.

Twitch, the streaming site, was suddenly full of celebrities and sports stars live streaming themselves playing their favourite games. It was a real eye opener. If you missed that gaming pandemic hype then fear not, because below we’ve compiled a list of 10 celebrities who have a real love affair with gaming.

  1. Victoria Coren-Mitchell

The host of BBC quiz show Only Connect has had a long and varied career that has seen her write columns in the newspaper, host television shows and even pen novels. What is lesser known about Coren-Mitchell is her successful poker career.

In 2006 she became the first woman to win an event on the European Poker Tour and has won multiple events since. It’s not just poker that takes Coren-Mitchell’s fancy though, she’s a big fan of online gambling and stated in an interview that she, “likes to stay up until 6am smoking, drinking and gambling” presumably playing poker with an online live casino UK site.

  1. Stormzy

British rapper Stormzy recently demonstrated his poor hand-eye coordination on an appearance on Soccer AM where his exploits in the Pro AM challenge weren’t’ great to say the least. Fortunately for the rapper his coordination is a little bit better when it comes to gaming.

He is an avid fan of the Watch Dogs series and was honoured for his dedication to the game having one of his songs featured in a mission in Watch Dogs: Legion.

  1. Elon Musk

When he isn’t rebranding something on the platform formerly known as Twitter or smoking marijuana with Joe Rogan, Musk likes to unwind by playing video games.

Strangely for such a technologically savvy entrepreneur, Musk prefers to unwind playing more basic games like Civilisation from which he says he drew the inspiration for auto landing rocket ships.

  1. Henry Cavill

British superstar actor Henry Cavill might be the last person you’d think of as a gamer but it really is one of his main passions. So much so that he built himself a PC that was streamlined to get the most out of his gaming sessions on World of Warcraft.

  1. Snoop Dogg

Is there anything that Snoop Dogg doesn’t do? The famous rapper and notable Just Eat salesman is also a massive gamer. Call of Duty and Battlefield seem to be his two favourite titles, with a skin of him featuring in the former, but Snoop has been known to play a whole range of titles, even trying his hand at FIFA.

  1. Eminem

The biggest rapper to have ever lived loves gaming, but his taste in games might surprise some. Instead of picking up the latest titles, the Real Slim Shady is a fan of retro games and in particular loves Pac Man.

Maybe it’s the beat of the background music on those retro titles that gets Em going.

  1. Sergio Aguero

The scorer of the most famous goal in Premier League didn’t just rest on his laurels and congratulate himself once his playing career was over. Instead he looked to branch out and try something different – Twitch steaming.

Streaming with a fairly basic setup at first whilst he played FIFA, Aguero has since gone on to have much more professional looking stream and has branched out to other titles too. What also helps is that he can call upon friend and former teammate Lionel Messi for the occasional chat and interview too.

  1. Ronda Rousey

She can kick your ass in real life and on a video game too. Ronda Rousey recently revealed that she is a massive World of Warcraft fan and the game honoured that fact by building an Easter egg into the game of a character called Rhonda that looks just like the former WWE star.

  1. Mila Kunis

Ukranian born actress Mila Kunis was massive in the late noughties and early 2010s but has gone somewhat quiet in recent years. Perhaps that’s because she spends most of her free time playing Call of Duty Warzone rather than auditioning for roles!

  1. Samuel L Jackson

What!? Say what again, I dare you, I double dare you…Okay we’ll stop before we get to the next word in that famous Samuel L Jackson line!

Jackson has been a massive fan of games since he was a kid, spending all of his spare money on arcade games. Nowadays he has modernised his tastes and is a big fan of the NBA2K series, Halo and Gears of War.
