Actor Billy Gardell has shared his 150-pound weight loss journey, revealing that he is now no longer diabetic and that he underwent a gastric bypass operation two years ago.
Actor Billy Gardell made headlines recently after losing an impressive 150 pounds and revealing that he is no longer living with type 2 diabetes. The former star of “Mike & Molly” shared with Entertainment Tonight that he is “walking around pretty healthy these days” and that he now weighs between 205 and 210 pounds.
Gardell admitted that he didn’t always put his health first, but eventually realized he needed to prioritize self-care. “I think you got to find peace with yourself and at some point, look in the mirror and go you know, it’s probably time to take care of you,” he said. The 53-year-old also revealed that the biggest perk of his weight loss was being able to shop at more clothing stores.
The actor revealed that he underwent a gastric bypass operation two years ago and advised people to commit to a healthy routine if they are considering the procedure. “Because what you have to commit to on the other side of it is what you need to look at … if you’re not willing to commit to that routine. Don’t do it. But if you’re ready to commit to that on a daily basis, proof’s in the pudding,” he said.
Gardell’s health journey not only benefited him, but also his relationship with his 20-year-old son William. “I’ve been an example in a lot of good ways for my child, but I feel like it wasn’t a good example of health for him,” he said. “And so I want him to see that it doesn’t matter what age you are. If you are willing to do something a day at a time, you can change anything. That’s the message I wanted him to get.” The actor hopes to quit smoking cigarettes, his last remaining vice, as he continues to prioritize his health.
