James Cromwell talks about his experiences with arrest due to his activism, admitting that he has lost count of how many times he has been arrested. The longtime supporter of progressive causes, particularly animal rights, became a vegetarian in 1974 and then a vegan while playing the character of Farmer Hoggett in the 1995 film “Babe”. Cromwell’s activism has included protesting against animal cruelty and advocating for nondairy products.

Most recently, the “Green Mile” star was arrested in May 2022 for supergluing his hand to a Starbucks counter to protest the coffee chain’s surcharge for vegan milks. During the incident, Cromwell stated the disadvantages of producing dairy milk from cows. Although he had fun with the glue but admitted that it did not hurt to remove as only acetone was needed. However, the police had to use the chemical to unglue him, forcing the beanery to shut down for the day.

Cromwell’s previous arrests took place at a July 2017 PETA protest against SeaWorld’s treatment of orca whales and an October 2019 demonstration at A&M University, where he called for the school to shut down a laboratory that used dogs for medical research. Despite his activism, Cromwell continues to book work such as playing Logan Roy’s estranged brother, Ewan Roy, in “Succession”. However, he is critical of his character, describing him as a sort of lefty who “missed the boat”.

Other stars who attended the premiere of “Succession” Season 4 included Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, J. Smith-Cameron and Jeremy Strong. The season premiered on March 26, 2022, on HBO. Cromwell’s activism continues as he fights for animal rights and advocates for sustainable and ethical practices.
