Actress Melanie Lynskey expressed her sadness at losing touch with her “Heavenly Creatures” co-star Kate Winslet, whom she once compared their friendship to a “love affair”, due to Winslet’s rise to international movie stardom.

Melanie Lynskey, known for her role in “Yellowjackets,” recently revealed in an interview that she misses her friend and former co-star, Kate Winslet. The two actresses became friends while filming the 1994 psychological drama “Heavenly Creatures” when they were teenagers. In a 2012 interview, Lynskey described their friendship as “more intense than some love affairs” and said that they were in constant contact for a long time.

However, Lynskey shared that they lost touch with each other once Winslet became an international movie star. She acknowledged that people often drift apart, but losing Winslet as a friend was particularly painful for her. Lynskey said, “When I lost touch with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some breakups that I’ve had. It was so painful, and it wasn’t like anything happened. It’s just she became a gigantic, international movie star, and she didn’t have a lot of time.”

Although Lynskey has not seen Winslet since they ran into each other at the premiere of “Away We Go” in 2009, she still sees the “Mare of Easttown” star as a huge inspiration. She noted that Winslet is an actor who comes along once in a generation and is currently witnessing her talent and performances in movies.

It’s not uncommon for celebrities to lose touch with each other over time, especially with the hectic schedules of actors in the entertainment industry. However, Lynskey’s sentiment about the loss of her friendship with Winslet is relatable to many who have experienced drifting apart from someone they once held dear. Yet, it’s heartening to hear that Lynskey still admires Winslet and acknowledges her talent despite the distance between them.
