Meryl Streep & Martin Short are Just Good Friends, Not Dating

Martin Short is squashing rumors. He’s not dating Meryl Streep.

The speculation started after the “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars were spotted looking cozy at the 2024 Golden Globes. But Short’s rep says it’s not what it looks like. They’re just friends, nothing more.

Sure, they got close on the Hulu show. They even played love interests. But they’re just good friends, the spokesperson clarified.

At the awards show, Streep, 74, and Short, 73, seemed pretty comfortable with each other. This led to some speculation on social media. People thought maybe their friendship had turned into something more.

“Meryl Streep and Martin Short might be in love but I have no proof,” one person tweeted. Another joked, “Meryl Streep & Martin Short allegedly dating is now my Roman Empire.”

The Messenger was the first to debunk the rumors.

In October, it was revealed that Streep had split from her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer. A spokesperson for the Oscar-winning icon revealed that they had been quietly “separated for more than six years” and living different lives.

Despite the separation, Streep was seen wearing her wedding ring up until the news broke.

The “Mama Mia!” star and the feted sculptor share four children: Henry Wolfe, 44, and actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 32. After the breakup news, Streep and her four kids showed a united front at the Academy Museum Gala, all dressed in black.

Meanwhile, Short’s late wife, Nancy Dolman, lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2010 at age 58. The couple, who were married for nearly 30 years, shared daughter Katherine, 40, and sons Oliver, 37, and Henry, 34.

Short called their marriage “a triumph” in an interview with AARP in 2019. He admitted he still talks to Dolman “all the time” despite her death.

“I believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them,” he explained. “This idea that it just ends, and don’t speak of them — that’s wrong. That’s based on denial that we’re all going to die. So to me, she’s still here.”

The “Three Amigos!” star has not publicly dated anyone in recent years.
